FY 2018 Northern New Mexico College Audit Reveals Significant Improvement

ESPANOLA — The New Mexico Office of the State Auditor, Thursday, Jan. 17, released Northern New Mexico College’s (NNMC) Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 audit, which contained a total of 18 findings.
 
This marks a 63 percent reduction in overall findings from its FY 2017 audit, which contained a total of 48 findings.
 
NNMC had six findings that were deemed to be Material Weaknesses, 12 fewer than the prior fiscal year. Regarding findings labeled Significant Deficiency, the College had four for FY 2018, a reduction from 13 received in FY 2017.

Receiving the Churchill Scholarship is an honor bestowed upon a very select cohort of college students from across the U.S.

The University of New Mexico’s Esteban Abeyta, a senior biochemistry major and honors minor, can now count himself as one of the scholarship’s elite.

The Churchill Scholarship was awarded to Abeyta for one year of master’s study at Churchill College at the University of Cambridge. The award covers full tuition, a stipend, travel costs, and the chance to apply for a $2,000 special research grant.

Back in the fall, the construction site at Barranca Elementary School was filled with piles of dirt.

Since then, progress on the project at 57 Loma Del Escolar has been moving full steam ahead, with the addition of steel beams and concrete flooring. The end result will be a new two-story classroom building for first through sixth grades, as well as a cafeteria and administrative offices.
