NHCC Art Museum Closed For Renovation

NHCC News:
 
ALBUQUERQUE The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) Art Museum is getting a new entrance during the month of February.
 
In order to maintain safety and protect the artwork, the museum is now closed through Feb. 25.
 
The Art Museum will reopen in time for the opening reception for its upcoming exhibition, Que Chola!, which will take place from 6-9 p.m., Friday, March 8. The last few years have seen a surge in interest in the Chola as a figure and this exhibition will explore this dynamic from a feminist perspective through art and popular culture.

University Ranking Site Puts NMT No. 11 For Online Master’s In Engineering Management

SOCORRO A new national ranking shows that New Mexico Tech has one of the best online programs in the nation for master’s in engineering management.
 
The website OnlineMasters.com recently released its ranking of top engineering management programs, slotting New Mexico Tech as the No. 11 in the nation.
 
The website praises NMT for offering a “structured master’s in engineering management program for students who are able to log in and participate in synchronous classroom sessions.

A proposal that seems innocuous at first glance would undermine the state scholarship program that serves them well.
 
I call your attention to Senate Bill 283. It’s the latest attempt to fatten the income of vendors for the state lottery at the expense of New Mexico’s students. SFCC & AARP Foundation Offer Free Income Tax Help

SANTA FE Santa Fe Community College, in partnership with AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, will host free income tax preparation assistance beginning Feb. 4 through April 15.
 
This year, the free service will be available on an appointment basis at a new location, the Santa Fe Higher Education Center, 1950 Siringo Road. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest free tax assistance and preparation service. The services are provided by volunteers from the community. This year the Higher Education Center is the only AARP Foundation Tax Aide site in Santa Fe.

We are writing to support Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s decision to eliminate PARCC testing in New Mexico.
 
As public school teachers in Los Alamos working with grades 4-6, we have supervised the administration of PARCC testing for several years. We have witnessed first hand the shortcomings with this test and the negative impact it has had year after year.
 
As teachers, we are expected to use a holistic approach when teaching children. These needs are well beyond the range of what the PARCC testing can assess.
