County Renewable Revolution: New Solar And Battery Contracts Set To Double Clean Electricity Supply

With a unanimous vote Tuesday night, the Los Alamos County Council approved the Foxtail Flats Solar and Storage agreements, putting Los Alamos County on an accelerated trajectory toward meeting its goal to be a net carbon-neutral energy provider by 2040.

The Council unanimously approved agreements for 170 MW of solar power from the Four Corners Area and 80 MW of battery storage.

Workers from Franco’s Builder, LLC on the job Thursday replacing a section of sidewalk near 77 Rover Blvd. in White Rock. The sidewalk on the west side of Rover Boulevard in front of Enterprise Bank & Trust has been closed due to the damaged sidewalk. It will remain closed until the sidewalk is repaired. The southbound lane is shifted to the median. During the Fall of 2023, the Los Alamos County Recreation Division conducted a community equestrian program survey.

In response to the survey and conversations with the equestrian community, more community involvement is desired.

County: Slow Water Leak Repair On 34th Street Monday

COUNTY News:

Water crews from the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) will be repairing a slow water leak on 34th Street on Monday. The work will begin at 8:30 a.m. and should last no later than 4 p.m. Monday.

The leak is in the middle of the road on 34th near Urban St. The area will be closed to through traffic while the repair is being made. Drivers should exercise caution near the work zone and avoid the area if possible.

DPU’s crews don’t anticipate any loss of water service for residents on 34th Street, although a drop in water pressure is possible.

During the month of March the Aquatic Center at 2760 Canyon Road will not offer long course set up. Long course set up will return 6-10:30 a.m., Mondays and Wednesdays in April.

LAPD Releases Details Of Accident On Truck Route

LAPD News:

          • A 44-year-old male from Santa Fe succumbed to his injuries.

This morning, Feb. 27, 2024, the Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) responded to a 9-1-1 call received by the LAPD Consolidated Dispatch Center reporting a three-car accident on N.M. 501/East Jemez Road (Truck Route) near mile marker 7.

LAPD officers arrived on the scene a few minutes later at 7:27 a.m., followed by Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD). Police officers closed the Truck Route for several hours for accident response, clean-up and investigation efforts.

The Los Alamos County Traffic & Streets Division has contracted with Franco’s Builder, LLC to replace a section of sidewalk near 77 Rover Blvd. in White Rock.

All Lanes On East Jemez & N.M. 4 To Reopen By March 1

COUNTY News:

Crews are scheduled to complete most of the construction on both East Jemez Road and N.M. 4 and reopen all lanes to traffic by Friday, March 1.

Crews will return to the project in mid- to late-April to apply OGFC (Open-Graded Friction Course) pavement to the roadway to help reduce wet-weather crashes. This activity requires consistently higher daytime temperatures.

Traffic Impacts In Place In The Meantime:

  • N.M. 4 traffic south of the intersection of N.M. 4 and East Jemez Road is shifted to the west side of the roadway, with one lane open in each direction (northbound and southbound).
