The County is reminding people that the Farmer’s Market will begin operations in the Mesa Public Library overflow lot 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., beginning Thursday, May 2 and continuing each Thursday through October.
Motorists are asked to use caution in this busy and congested area of downtown Central Avenue Thursday mornings and watch for traffic and pedestrians in and around the parking lot and Ashley Pond Park.

County Council Approves $199.3 Million Budget
After several fiscal years of having to make tough decisions regarding Los Alamos County’s budget due to uncertainties with Los Alamos National Laboratory’s gross receipts tax, the County Council was able to break that cycle Monday night.

Road Work In White Rock To Begin Monday

COUNTY News:
Beginning Monday, April 29, contractor Cable Com will begin a construction project along 11 Sherwood Blvd. from N.M. 4 in front of the White Rock Branch Library.
The work is estimated to be completed May 3. The work includes an open cut trench and will require asphalt cut and replacement. The project also may involve concrete cut and replacement.
As a result, this section of road will be closed to traffic. Traffic will be re-routed to Bonnie View Drive and Longview Drive.

LAPD: Active Shooter Training Pueblo Complex May 1
LAPS News:
The Los Alamos Police Department is conducting an active shooter training May 1 at the Pueblo Complex at 1990 Diamond Dr.
This training is 1-4 p.m. and there will be multiple police units, officer and role players on scene.

The Los alamos County Council voted unanimously to tentatively approve the Department of Public Utilities approximately $63.3 million budget during Monday night’s hearing.

The Los Alamos County Council voted unanimously to approve the Administrative Services Department budget of approximately $7.9 million during its annual budget hearing Monday night in Council Chambers at the Municipal Building.
Council also tentatively approved the following budget options:
- $40,926 for training and communication budget;
- $66,240 for hardware and software; and
- $41,858 for contractual services.
County Seeks Volunteer ‘Actors’ For Emergency Exercise
COUNTY News:
Los Alamos County will be conducting a County-wide active shooter exercise Saturday, May 18 at the University of New Mexico – Los Alamos campus.
The campus will be closed May 18 for the exercise, which is being conducted in order to test and improve the County’s overall preparedness in responding to an active shooter event.
The County is seeking at least 30 volunteers to participate as “actors” in the exercise. Exercise activity will take place over approximately seven hours beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing until 3 p.m. May 18.

Los Alamos Fire Department Wildfire Fuels Reduction Mitigation Project Gets Underway

Los Alamos Fire Department will begin work this week on an important wildfire fuels reduction project that will provide much-needed mitigation in several areas of Los Alamos.
LAFD has received grant funding for the project, which will include the following areas: Ponderosa Estates Range Road, North Horse Stable Bench, Walnut Bench, Villa Bench, Lower Loma Linda, Camino Redondo and Camino Uva.
