Final Reminder: Property Taxes Due By May 10

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County would like to remind property owners that the second installment for 2018 property tax bills becomes delinquent after Friday, May 10. 

Payment must either be made in person at the Customer Care Center by 4 p.m. May 10 or postmarked by midnight that same day to avoid late payment penalty and interest charges.

The Customer Care Center is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday in the Los Alamos County Municipal Building lobby at 1000 Central Ave.

County Discoveries Action Team Meets May 16

COUNTY News:

The next monthly meeting of the Discoveries Action Team (DAT) is 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16 in the upstairs Zia and Throne Rooms of Fuller Lodge.

This month, the only item on the agenda is for the Place-Making and Place-Marketing subgroups to gather and work on their projects.

New members interested in joining the team are invited to attend the meeting and observe the work of the subgroups. Project champions will be available to network with new members and help them learn more about the projects in progress. Participants are asked to bring their own lunch.

Traffic Alert: Rover Boulevard Southbound Right Lane Closure Near Del Norte Credit Union Thursday

Traffic Alert:

Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets division will be working on Rover Boulevard Thursday, May 2 in White Rock to repair a cut in the road.

The cut was caused by an emergency water line break that occurred a few weeks back.

The lane closure will occur in the southbound right lane next to Del Norte Credit Union. Crews will begin setting up traffic control at 8 a.m. and should complete the project by noon.

Probate Judge Vacancy Application Deadline Tuesday

Applicants interested in filling the Probate Judge vacancy created by the resignation of Anne Nobile last month are reminded to submit their letter of interest to the County Manager’s office no later than the deadline of 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 30.
 
The successful applicant will finish Nobile’s term, which will end Dec. 31, 2022.
 
Interested applicants are asked to submit a one- or two-page letter indicating why they would be interested in serving as Probate Judge. Under State law, any qualified person over the age of 18 who is a resident of Los Alamos County may serve.

On the job in Los Alamos is Sgt. Robin Hopkins giving a presentation during a recent meeting of the Los Alamos Public Safety Association held at UNM-LA. Sgt. Hopkins was a deputy sheriff in 2015 at the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office when a call came over the radio about a suspect with a stolen police car armed with and shooting an AK-47 assault rifle. She answered the call and put herself directly in the line of fire by attempting to block the suspect. He opened fired at her vehicle as she approached.
