Los Alamos County Bids Nancy Cerutti Farewell

Los Alamos County Senior Planner Nancy Cerutti retired Friday following 22 years of service. Anne Laurent, Capital Projects and Facilities director, presents Nambé gifts to Cerutti on behalf of the County during a farewell party Friday afternoon at the Community and Economic Development Department on East Road. Cerutti explained that her husband John Cerutti, took the buyout option from Los Alamos National Laboratory in the spring and she decided that she wanted to have time to go off and play and have fun with him. Glass Drop-off Recycling Program Starts Today

Starting Saturaday, Sept. 29, yellow collection dumpsters will be placed at Sullivan Field and the Overlook Park Convenience Center to accept glass bottles and jars of all colors for recycling.

Glass bottles and jars will also be accepted for recycling at the Eco Station. Yellow in-home collection containers are now available at the Eco Station.

'Mozart on the Rocks' at Bandelier Begins 4 p.m. Today with Tailgaiting at White Rock Visitor Center!

The community is invited to gather for "Mozart on the Rocks: Opera at Bandelier" with tailgaiting and music.

This special event begins at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 with tailgating at the new White Rock Visitor Complex on N.M. 4.

Starting at 5 p.m., Atomic City Transit will transport guests to Bandelier with an introduction to the evening's performance provided by the Los Alamos Opera Guild while in transit.

At the Bandelier Amphitheater, a complimentary wine tasting will be hosted by the Don Quixote Distillery & Winery.

Operation Hilltopper: Active Shooter Loose at School

Emergency first response organizations in Los Alamos County have for the past year been training personnel, polishing plans and tweaking equipment in a comprehensive effort aimed at preparing to deal with a scenario that nobody hopes will ever arise – an active shooter loose at a school. 

Operation Hilltopper, scheduled to commence at 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, is a full-scale exercise designed to test police, fire, emergency medical support, Los Alamos Medical Center and Los Alamos High School personnel and their abilities to adequately respond to just such an event.

County Launches On-Line Public Comment Forum

Los Alamos County has launched a new on-line public comment forum called “Open Forum.”

Open Forum will be moderated by Peak Democracy and is another tool as the County continues its efforts to expand ways that citizens can voice their opinions about a variety of topics.

The forum can be accessed on the County’s home page.

County Councilors and County Staff will review comments and incorporate them into the decision-making process.

Trinity & Oppenheimer Intersection Operating as 4-Way Stop Tuesday Oct. 2

Tuesday Oct. 2, the Los Alamos County Public Works Traffic Division staff will replace the traffic signal control cabinet at the Trinity and Oppenheimer intersection.

Work will begin at 8:30 a.m. with an expected completion of no later than 1 p.m. the same day.

During the replacement, the traffic signal will be dark and the intersection will operate as a four-way stop. Motorists should expect minor delays.

Coldwell Banker analyzed 11,000 suburbs for its latest ranking of the "Best Places to Live" series and White Rock came in 16 in the “Best Places to Live for Suburbanites” category across the United States (and number one in New Mexico).

Council Tightens Confidentiality Rules

After reading last week's Los Alamos Daily Post story, "County's Economic Vitality Administrator Discusses Trinity Site Lease Transfer,"  Cyndi Wells, owner of Pet Pangea asked:

"So, what are these millions in redevelopment incentives?  Who are they available to?" 

The Los Alamos Daily Post put the questions to Greg Fisher and what follows is his reply.

Businesses that are expanding and adding new jobs and capital investment. They could be new businesses or existing businesses.

Lane Shift Today on East Road

Eastbound traffic on Trinity Drive will be shifted to the center dividing lane at the location where Trinity Drive turns into East Road today.

Construction crews replacing a section of natural gas line along the south side of East Road will excavate into the road to tie the new line into the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities gas distribution system. 

Westbound traffic on East Road and Trinity will be unaffected. The lane shift for eastbound motorists will begin at the Central/Trinity fork until just before Canyon Drive on East Road.

Gas Safety-Annual Leak Survey Underway

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities is conducting its regular annual maintenance survey of the natural gas distribution system.

“Every year, as required by the U.S. Department. of Transportation, we walk the gas lines comprising the county’s distribution network, to detect and repair gas leaks of any size,” said Deputy Utilities Manager for Gas, Water & Sewer, Timothy Glasco.
