Holiday Farmers Markets Coming to Fuller Lodge

FARMERS MARKET News:
The holidays are coming and so are the Los Alamos Holiday Farmers Markets - Thursdays, Dec. 13 and Dec. 20 at Fuller Lodge from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
 
Plan to attend the markets for those special gifts and foods to make the season bright.

Foods: Soup mixes, fudge, beans, salsa, cookies, tea breads, sticky buns, coffee cakes, breads, stolen, pizza, red chile powder, jams, jellies, honey and honey sticks, apples, apple cider, green chile powder, pinon nuts, tamales, dip mixes, chile pods, winter squash, vinegars, ginger snap cookies, hand-tossed breads with fruits

Kiwanis meets noon-1 p.m., each Tuesday at the Masonic Temple on Sage Street, near the intersection of 15th Street and Canyon Road.

Speakers and topics are occasionally subject to change because of illness, conflicts or weather.

Dec. 11 - Los Alamos Public Schools Superintendent Gene Schmidt will speak on the upcoming LAPS mail-in bond election.

Dec. 18 - Committee Meetings.

Dec. 25 - Christmas Day! There will be no noon Kiwanis meeting and no Newsletter.

Los Alamos Federated Republican Women Hosts Christmas Luncheon Wednesday

The Los Alamos Federated Republican Women will hold its annual Christmas luncheon/meeting noon-1:30 p.m., Wednesday Dec. 12 at the Church of Christ, 2323 Diamond Dr.

New officers will be sworn in and members are encouraged to bring guests who may be interested in joining the chapter.

Members also are reminded to bring non-perishable food items and toiletries for the organization's charity donations.

Relay For Life of Los Alamos Holding Volunteer Informational Meeting Wednesday

American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Los Alamos will hold a volunteer informational meeting 5:30–6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the Comfort Inn & Suites, 2455 Trinity Dr., in Los Alamos. 

The organization is seeking walkers, cancer survivors, caregivers and community leaders to help plan the 2013 Relay For Life of Los Alamos.  

Holiday treats and refreshments will be served. Thanks to General Manager Felicia Duran and the Comfort Inn for donating the meeting space.

Live Nativity Christmas Eve At United Church

The United Church is planning a living Nativity 5-8 p.m., Christmas Eve in the parking lot west of the Church at 2525 Canyon Road, across Canyon Road from the Aquatics Center.

The nativity will be held between a family service at 4 p.m. and a candlelight service at 11 p.m. and the public is invited to attend and interact with the Living Nativity, greet the Holy Family, shepherds and kings and pet the stable animals.

SANTA FE – Experts on the Santa Fe Trail, women of the West, Clyde Tingley, “St. Kate’s” and the Manhattan Project will deliver lectures in the first half of the 2013 Brainpower & Brownbags Lecture Series.

The annual series, organized by Tomas Jaehn of the museum’s Fray Angélico Chávez History Library, is free and open to the public (and, yes, you can bring a lunch.)

It is now official. What the local community has known for the past year was validated with state awards that honored Los Alamos High School for its design and quality construction.

Simply stated, Los Alamos builds award winning schools.

The New Mexico Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors selected LAHS as its 2012 “Excellence in Construction Award” winner this past October.

If you would like to help us make the holiday special for these families and purchase a gift for one of the Y families, come by the Y at 1450 Iris St., and select a tag from the tree in our lobby.

 

After selecting a tag from the tree please follow these four easy steps:

  • Purchase the gift requested on the tag.
  • Wrap the gift.
  • Attach the tag that was selected from the tree.
  • Return the gift to the Y.

The gifts must be returned to the Y by Dec. 10 in order in ensure timely delivery to the Y's adopted families.

The National Weather Service's latest forecast said that our warm weather will come to a "jarring demise" this weekend - let's hope for snow to set a festive mood on Saturday for Winterfest! The Main Street Association's Holiday Lights parade at 6 p.m. this Saturday and then the County Recreation Division's North Pole Workshop plus Luminaria Walk at the North Mesa Stables is Sunday evening.

Dance Arts Los Alamos brings the magical world of “Hansel and Gretel” to the Duane Smith Auditorium for three performances this weekend. I saw the production’s dress rehearsal on Dec. 6.

The original ballet is directed and choreographed by Dance Arts Los Alamos Ballet Director Christin Severini, with additional choreography by DALA’s Executive Director Valerie Silks and ballet instructor

Hilltopper Alumni Society Holiday Social is Dec. 12

The Hilltopper Alumni Society’s first ever holiday social will be held from 4-7 p.m. Dec. 12 at Dixie Girl, 1789 Central Ave.

This is an opportunity for graduates of Los Alamos High School to mix and mingle. There will be a brief introduction to the Alumni Society’s first project; converting the senior photos that once hung in the halls of Los Alamos High School to digital files.

All Hilltopper Alumni are welcome to attend and enjoy complimentary appetizers with drinks available for purchase.
