DPLA News:

New Mexico’s 1st Judicial District Judge Sylvia LaMar spoke at the monthly meeting of the Democratic Party of Los Alamos March 21.

LaMar discussed her judicial docket, which includes hearing domestic cases each Wednesday in the district courtroom of the Los Alamos Justice Center.

Before she was appointed by Gov. Susanna Martinez last November, LaMar practiced domestic relations and personal injury law in Santa Fe for many years.

WASHINGTON – From the Oval Office to Taos, New Mexicans and members of the Congressional Delegation celebrated Monday the Río Grande del Norte National Monument Proclamation that was signed by President Barack Obama.
 
The national monument designation is widely welcome by Taos and Rio Arriba county residents. A recent study shows the national monument will support hundreds of jobs and bring millions of tourism dollars to the area.

Monday: Udall to Host Río Grande del Norte White House Proclamation Celebration in Taos

Caver Presents Lechuguilla Cave Exploration History

Come to PEEC at 6:30 p.m. April 5, to learn about the history of exploration in Lechuguilla Cave.

Local caver John Lyles will present highlights of his 20 years of involvement in the project to map Lechuguilla.

Volunteers dug open Lechuguilla Cave, the “Jewel of the Underground” at Carlsbad Caverns National Park in 1986.

The cave quickly earned world-class status among caves, passing 50 miles of discovered length in four years, and 100 miles within the first decade of exploration.

New Mexico Home Sales Continue Upward Trend

Home sales and median prices reported to the REALTORS Association of New Mexico (RANM) for February 2013 continue the upward trend begun in January.

In February, 1,026 sales were reported. This is an increase of more than 21 percent sales than reported during February 2011 (845) and 5 percent more than the February 2012 number of 977.

February’s median price of $165,000 is up 3.4 percent from February 2012 and equal to the median reported in February 2011. Median price indicates half the properties sold for more and half for less.

NMDOT Prepares for Annual Pilgrimage to El Santuario De Chimayó

SANTA FE – The highways and roads that lead to the village of Chimayó, New Mexico will be crowded next week as thousands of people begin their pilgrimage to el Santuario de Chimayó.

The largest crowds will be seen on Good Friday, March 29, but road congestion and minor delays can be expected any time in this area during Holy Week, the week before Easter Sunday.

NM Delegation Applauds Creation of Río Grande del Norte Monument

WASHINGTON D.C. – Members of the New Mexico Congressional Delegation today applauded the decision by President Barack Obama to create a national monument to protect the Río Grande del Norte in Northern New Mexico.
 
The president will hold a National Monument Proclamations Signing Ceremony at the White House Monday.
 
The Bureau of Land Management, under the direction of the Department of the Interior, currently manages the 240,000 acres of land in Northern New Mexico.
