Good Weekend For Hilltopper Boys’ Basketball Team

Faced with the loss of two of his team’s upperclassmen, Hilltopper basketball coach Mike Kluk, turned to his sophomores to carry the day in two games this past weekend. With 6’5” junior Adam Paulson out with a knee injury and 6’2” senior Isiah Espinosa out sick, the Toppers rallied behind their super sophomores.

Fans who packed Griffith Gymnasium at Los Alamos High School to see Wednesday’s much-anticipated matchup between the Lady Hilltoppers and the Española Valley High School Lady Sundevils were treated to a thriller of a game.

Topper Boys Fall To Espanola 80–70

Perhaps fired up by the talented National Anthem sung by Freshman Mattie Ruminer, the Topper boys’ basketball team came out of the chute on fire Tuesday night. They led the Espanola Sundevils 20-12 after the first quarter. However, the Sundevils outscored the Toppers by 20 points in the 2nd and 3rd quarters to take a commanding 57-45 lead into the 4th quarter. The Toppers never gave up and closed to within 10 in the 4th quarter before falling 80 to 70.

Knights Of Columbus Sponsors Youth 2016 Free Throw Championship Jan. 31

All boys and girls ages 9 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship.
 
The local competition is 1-3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 31 at LAHS Griffith Gymnasium. Registration is free of charge and will be held onsite beginning at 12:30 p.m. on the date of the event. Parental consent is required, so a parent/guardian must be present during registration.
