Chase Ealey Takes Second In NCAA Shot Put Final

EUGENE, Ore. Los Alamos High School graduate and Oklahoma State University senior Chase Ealey closed the book on her Cowgirl career with her second All-America honor of the year, finishing second in the shot put final, and Kaela Edwards of Los Alamos and Ingeborg Loevnes of Norway advanced to NCAA finals Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
 
In the rain on the Hayward infield, Ealey set a school record of 17.99m/59-0.25 feet and finished runner-up in the shot put to finish her Oklahoma State career.

Los Alamos County Little League Starts Strong In District Playoffs

Los Alamos County Little League District Playoffs are underway and local teams are off to a strong start.
 
In the first round of District Playoffs Thursday, the Los Alamos baseball 9-10s beat Santa Fe National 8-4 and the softball 9-10s beat Espanola 15-8.
 
This year, Los Alamos County Little League is hosting the district and regional girls softball tournaments at the North Mesa Ball Fields.

Pro basketball star Alex Kirk is the celebrity guest at a lunch today at the Blue Window Bistro. Los Alamos County Councilor James Chrobocinski and his wife Jackie purchased the luncheon during an auction at this year’s Rotary Crab Fest fundraiser. RED RIVER  Skijoring America announced the 2016 Southern Region National Championships at the annual member meeting held in Silverton, Colo.
 
Savannah McCarthy, who competed with her horse Tank, won the Rider Award in the Pro division for Rider and Horse. McCarthy is a sophomore at Aztec High School and has been on the honor roll since her freshman year. She enjoys volleyball and track, but her favorite sport is skijoring, which she’s been competing in for the last four years.

Black Bear Attacks Runner At Valles Caldera

VCNP News:

JEMEZ SPRINGS — Saturday, June 18, in midafternoon, a participant in a permitted running event on Valles Caldera National Preserve was attacked by a female American black bear when the individual came upon the bear’s cubs along a backcountry road being used as the event route. 

The incident occurred in the southwest corner of the preserve, known as Banco Bonito, approximately seven miles away from the Valle Grande. The runner was part of a marathon event being conducted on the preserve under a special use permit.
