BLM Announces Call For Nominations To Wild Horse And Burro Advisory Board

BLM News:

The Bureau of Land Management today issued a call for public nominations to fill three positions on its national Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board.

To be considered for selection, nominations must be received via email by Feb. 10, 2017, or postmarked by that date. The BLM published its request for nominations in the Federal Register.

Nominations are for a term of three years and are needed to represent the following categories of interest: public interest (equine behavior), wild horse and burro research, and natural resource management.

Letter To The Editor: Petition And Rhetoric Misses Mark

It absolutely amazes me about what can be presented at a County Council meeting to defeat something. A case in point: the petition and rhetoric of a group at the Dec.  20, 2016, County Council meeting who spoke about the location of additional tennis courts in the area next to the current Los Alamos High School tennis courts (i.e., ‘Mesa Meadow’).

RED RIVER The 2nd Annual Red River Skijoring races in Red River, NM are Saturday, Jan. 14 and Sunday, Jan. 15.

The races start each day at high noon on River Street. This year there also will be an Exhibition Division in which kids and adults can participate.

Family YMCA Meets Scholarship Fundraising Goal

YMCA News:

The Family YMCA’s 2016 goal to raise $140,000 for financial assistance scholarships was met this year. The tally today stands at $145,148 donated by 381 donors and corporate partners.

“We are so thankful to our community members for supporting each other and our teens,” Y CEO Linda Daly said.

According to Daly, in 2016 the Y has provided 286 individuals (up from last year’s 275) in 136 families with assistance. Of these 286 individuals, 160 were youth and 126 were adult members.

December concludes a year of on-site corporate wellness presentations to staff at Bandelier National Monument by staff at The Family YMCA. Bandelier staff members who took part in the education and wellness program.

Y Foyer Gets A Makeover

In early December, The Family YMCA completed a makeover of its foyer to highlight its Heritage Club donor recognition piece. The tree’s metal leaves name donors to the Y’s endowment program.
