A paper wasp nest is spotted today nestled in a tree near the Los Alamos Post Office downtown on Central Avenue. Paper wasps are vespid wasps that gather fibers from dead wood and plant stems, which they mix with saliva, and use to construct water-resistant nests made of gray or brown papery material. An Albuquerque man who allegedly attempted to cash an altered check belonging to an elderly White Rock woman was bound over Friday to District Court following a preliminary hearing before Los Alamos Magistrate Court Judge Pat Casados.

Eric Sanchez, 29, is charged with forgery and having an open container in his vehicle.

Two men and a woman were arrested Aug. 27 in yet another shoplifting incident at Smith’s Marketplace. Robert W. Charge Against Andrea Rivera Dismissed

A charge of unlawful taking of a motor vehicle against Andrea R. Rivera of Los Alamos was dismissed without prejudice Sept. 1 in Los Alamos Magistrate Court.

Rivera was charged with the crime April 21 when she was allegedly a passenger in a vehicle being driven by another woman who did not have permission to drive it. Later the driver alleged Rivera was driving the vehicle and she didn’t know where it was.
