FBI: Federal Jury Convicts Navajo Man

ALBUQUERQUE A federal jury sitting in Albuquerque, returned a verdict late Thursday afternoon finding Melvin Russell guilty on an aggravated sexual abuse charge following a four-day trial.  
 
Russell, a previously convicted sex offender, faces a statutory maximum penalty of life imprisonment when he is sentenced on the conviction. U.S. Attorney John C. Anderson, Special Agent in Charge Terry Wade of the FBI’s Albuquerque Division, and Director Jesse Delmar of the Navajo Nation Department of Public Safety (NNDPS) announced the jury’s guilty verdict.

Kirtland Air Force Base Leaders Break Ground On New HH-60W Simulator Facility May 14

KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE Leaders from the 58th Special Operations Wing at Air Force Base will join leaders from the community to break ground at 1 p.m., May 14 on the new HH-60W simulator facility.
 
The HH-60W is the new combat rescue helicopter for the Air Force. Dubbed “the Whiskey” due to its W model name designation, the aircraft is expected to be delivered to the 58th by March of 2020. However, aircrew members will begin simulator training soon after the facility’s completion in June, 2019.

Forest Increases Public Engagement To Prevent Fires

SFNF News:

SANTA FE – Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) personnel will engage the public more often than usual to increase fire prevention awareness and reduce the chances for wildfires while in Stage 2 fire restrictions.

The Stage 2 fire restrictions went into effect across the forest May 7 and will remain until conditions allow forest officials to change or lift the restrictions.

FBI Arrests Española Man In Death Of Woman

The FBI has arrested an Española man in connection with the death of a Native American woman.
 
Douglas D. Smith, 68, had an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque Tuesday. The victim’s body was found near an Española motel last Saturday morning.
 
The public is reminded that all defendants are considered innocent unless found guilty in a court of law.

Use of a Los Alamos man’s passport taken during an April 10 burglary of a Rim Road residence has led to four counts of identity theft for Michael Genarro Daddio, 34, of Albuquerque.
