To conclude its 70th anniversary season, the Los Alamos Choral Society is presenting its Spring Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, May at the United Church of Los Alamos.

The concert entitled “Encore!  Favorites Through The Years” will include music from past performances; from the 1970s through the past decade.

The public is invited to attend an upcoming musical concert hosted by Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) Catholic Church of Los Alamos — the third in its series of free concerts to raise money for the Catherine LeClaire Memorial Organ Fund.

Since the start of year, the dance students of Los Alamos High School have been learning and perfecting the art of ballroom dance and will perform at 7 p.m. Monday, May 20 in the Dwayne Smith Auditorium. LAHS teacher Natasha Barkhudarova teaches her students the fundamentals of dance and performance and in this case, the dances were inspired by the musical Grease. I’m coming clean. I am the parent of the “noisy and unpleasant child” at the performance of Beethoven’s Ninth. Shame on me for not keeping her under control!
 
I would have liked to remove her from the audience, but my husband and I were both playing in the band. We spend a lot of time rehearsing, and our kids wanted to hear us play. We want to teach them about music and give them opportunities to hear live music.

Music filled Fuller Lodge May 5 as five students competed for the Deborah Beene Music Award.

First place went to Los Alamos High School senior Emily Silks who performed on the marimba. She was awarded $1,200 and is planning to attend the University of Montana in the fall, where she will major in music.
