Just One Thing To Do This Week: Share Your Story

By MARY BETH MAASSEN
Los Alamos

I recently attended one of the Los Alamos County Brand Action Plan presentations.

Los Alamos – Where Discoveries Are Made was a great presentation and I think holds a lot of promise for moving our community forward. One of the participants mentioned the difficult stigma the community of Los Alamos has with some people. I certainly understood this because once upon a time I was one of those “some people.”

I met my now-husband, then a geologist with LANL, 26 years ago at the Midsummer Music Festival in Telluride. I was there with singer/songwriter and social activist Read More

The Finishing Touch Updates Walls With PPG Pittsburg Paint’s Color Of The Year

Kaylen Pocaterra is painting PPG Pittsburg Paint’s Color of the Year on the walls Tuesday at The Finishing Touch, 174 Central Park Square. The Violet Verbena color is a gray-purple hue that idealizes the popular bohemian, ‘gypset’ lifestyle. This nuanced update on a classic shade adds depth, luxury and pampering to every space, making it the perfect backdrop for consumers looking to blend the masculine, the feminine, the mystic and the modern. Pastor Raul Granillo: Not My Church

By Pastor Raul Granillo
Los Alamos

For most of my life, I thought that the most important activity for a Christian was to attend church or mass on Sundays. I’m not sure if I was just ignorant of what everyone else knew, or if this was the common mentality. To be honest, I kind of thought that going to church was both the beginning and end of being a Christian.

I’m afraid that, even if we don’t admit it, for too many Christians, attending service on Sunday allows us to feel as if we have attained the highest achievement possible in our lives. Maybe so many only go occasionally so that it can mean more when Read More

Design trends, professional growth, product launches, networking, industry speakers, innovation, inspiration, learning opportunities, kitchens and baths…that’s what I experienced last week in Orlando at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS), National Association of Home Builder’s (NAHB) International Builders Show and Design and Construction week.

Held at the Orange County Convention Center, I went everywhere – from the West Hall to the South Hall (and back and forth more than I want to remember) to the Outdoor Read More

Just One Thing To Do This Week: Sleep Better

By MARY BETH MAASSEN
Los Alamos

I can think of very few things that are more rewarding than a deep, undisturbed, restful night’s sleep. The kind of profound slumber where you lay your head on the pillow, fall instantly to sleep and wake up eight hours later filled with energy and ready for the day.

There is nothing worse than tossing and turning all night, looking at the alarm clock every 10 minutes, counting down the amount of sleep you are NOT getting and wondering how you are going to make it through the day.

Research, as well as our own life experience, tells us that inadequate sleep affects our mood Read More
