New Mexico Highlands University Navajo RN-BSN Student Tanya Tohtsoni Works On Front Lines Of COVID-19 Pandemic

LAS VEGAS, NM — Tanya Tohtsoni, a Navajo woman and RN-BSN student at New Mexico Highlands University, is on the front lines as a nurse serving the hard-hit Navajo Nation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tohtsoni also won a $1,000 Florence Nightingale Foundation scholarship in April 2020, the second year in a row she has received the honor. She has maintained a 4.0 GPA to date and is on track to graduate in December 2020.

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials have announced today 116 additional positive tests for COVID-19.

Update includes eight additional deaths related to COVID-19.

Per the New Mexico Department of Health, the most recent cases announced today include:

  • 17 new cases in Bernalillo County
  • 1 new case in Cibola County
  • 1 new case in Colfax County
  • 4 new cases in Doña Ana County
