The Los Alamos Northern New Mexico Section is sponsoring a technical talk open to the public at noon Oct. 14 at the LANL Library JRO 1/2 (turn right upon entering the Oppenheimer Study Center.
 
Abstract: Near Vertical Incidence Skywave (NVIS) propagation is useful to establish communications over short to moderate distances where line-of-sight communications is not available. This presentation will discuss the phenomenon and applicability of NVIS, and describe antennas parameters suitable to exploit this propagation.

Local Girl Scouts Plant 44 Ponderosa Pine Seedlings

Girl Scout Troop 10074 planted 44 Ponderosa Pine seedlings Sunday, Oct. 6 near the Perimeter Trail in the Cerro Grande burn scar. The seedlings were grown by a local woman from seeds from the Ponderosa Pine in her backyard. Troop 10074 would like to thank her, and also Eric Peterson of the Los Alamos County Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces Division for providing tools for the project. Prescribed Fire Planned For Little Coyote Creek

ANGEL FIRE ― The Forest Stewards Guild (FSG), working closely with the New Mexico State Land Office (SLO), New Mexico State Forestry, Moreno Valley Fire Department, and Angel Fire Fire Department have been preparing the area around Little Coyote Creek for the return of fire since 2008.
 
The burn will take place on state trust land near Black Lake. This burn builds on years and millions of dollars of investments aimed at maintaining forest health and reducing wildfire risk to nearby communities. This burn area was identified as a high priority in the Enchanted Circle
