Coco is the seventh bear to arrive recently at Cottonwood Rehab in the valley. Coco was brought in from Los Alamos weighing just 15 lbs. and must get to 65 lbs. for release. 17th Annual Clean Up Los Alamos Day Nets More Than 18 Tons Of Trash … Thank You Community!

Environmental Services and the Environmental Sustainability Board would like to thank all the volunteers who participated in the 17th annual Clean Up Los Alamos Day Saturday, Sept. 12.

Volunteers picked up litter from all over the county including school grounds, parks and trails. This year, 25 groups and 250 volunteers signed up to participate in Clean Up Los Alamos Day.

BLM Adjusts Hours Of Operation At Santa Cruz Lake

TAOS — The Bureau of Land Management Taos Field Office has adjusted the hours of operation for the Santa Cruz Lake Recreation Area for the upcoming fall season.

The new hours of operation for day use are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday to Sunday.

The area will remain closed Monday through Wednesday.  

BLM staff, volunteers and contractors have been working diligently to update and improve the recreation opportunities at Santa Cruz Lake. However, the North Shore Campground will remain closed until construction is complete. The Overlook Campground also is not available.

SANTA FE — Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) are taking a carefully considered look at resuming the limited use of prescribed fire to reduce hazardous fuels, improve wildlife habitat, and create healthier, more resilient forest and watershed ecosystems.

A final decision on whether to proceed with a specific prescribed burn will depend on multiple conditions, including the national wildland fire preparedness level and resource availability, fuel moisture levels, air quality and forecasted weather.
