Watch ‘Whip It’ and Meet Local Derby Dames

Meet Los Alamos’ own roller derby team, the M’Atom Bombs, before the movie.
 
The team is part of the local league, the LA Derby Dames. The event starts at 6 p.m. and the movie begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4 at Mesa Public Library.
 
This is a free event.
 
“Whip It” is based on the 2007 novel “Derby Girl” by former competitor Shauna Cross.

AACT Fest 2013 is here! Los Alamos is hosting the American Association of Community Theatre’s three-day event, spotlighting community theatres from across New Mexico.

For non-thespians, the main attraction will be four one-act plays put on by companies from throughout the state.

The Los Alamos Cooperative Market is hosting its first wine and food pairing class Saturday, April 6 in the Co-op’s Café.

There will be two 75-minute classes: 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Vivác Winery’s Marketing and Publicity Director Michele A. Padberg, a certified executive sommelier, will teach the basics of wine and food pairing in a relaxed setting so attendees can feel free to explore different taste sensations.

Experience five different Vivác wines, all using New Mexico grapes, paired to local, regional and international cheese, beef and dark chocolate.

Bandelier National Monument and the Los Alamos Guild of the Santa Fe Opera will present “Opera on the Rocks” Saturday, Sept. 21 at Bandelier.

This second annual event will feature AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS by Giancarlo Menotti, an Opera Alta production.

Fabulous Fifties Family Sock Hop Saturday!

Los Alamos Family Council’s 8th Annual Fabulous Fifties Family Sock Hop will be held 6-10 p.m. Saturday, March 23 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church’s Parish Hall.

This alcohol-free, multi-generational yearly event is LAFC’s only fundraiser, Executive Director Joyce Beery said.

Families interested in a hoppin’ good evening of fun will find it at the Hop, Beery said, noting that in addition to music and dancing for all ages – including dance contests
