UNM-LA holds 31st Annual Graduation Convocation

UNM-Los Alamos celebrated its 31st annual Graduation Convocation on May 10, 2012. Five students received bachelor’s degrees, 39 received associate degrees, 5 received academic certificates and 8 students received General Educational Development Diplomas.

Convocation Speaker Dr. Chaouki T. Abdallah is the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of New Mexico.


Don Davis is 2012 Teacher of the Year!

Donald Davis of Los Alamos High School is Los Alamos Public Schools 2012 Teacher of the Year. Davis was honored at a ceremony at Fuller Lodge Thursday evening. Young Life Golf Tournament Helps Teens Go to Camp

Young Life Los Alamos is hosting its second annual golf tournament May19 at the Los Alamos Golf Course.

It’s a Four Man Scramble Format golf tournament in which participants can create their own 4-some or be placed on a team.

All monies raised will go to benefit kids going to camp this summer.

This charitable event includes dinner, a raffle and prizes for the cost of $85 per golfer.

“It costs about $500 to send a teenager to summer camp for a week,” said Young Life Area Director Ryan Gilbert. “With the economy the way it is, we are able to offset that cost for families in need.”

Espanola YMCA Teen Center


The Espanola YMCA Teen Center (EYTC) hosted the second annual Born-2-Cruise Model car & Custom Bicycle Show Saturday, April 14.

This event was a great success and was flooded with more than 200 visitors and more than 50 participants.

Low-rider enthusiasts from all around the community and outward attended and showed off their custom creativity.

Family Fun Day Rocks Mountain Gym

The white line running horizontally through the Mountain Elementary School gymnasium is a paper chain comprised of 3-inch links made by students. Each link represents five “green slips” a student accumulates from doing good deeds. The chain stretches two-and-a-half times the length of the gym. UNM-Los Alamos Honors Rep. Jeannette Wallace

The Building 5 Lecture Hall on the UNM-Los Alamos campus is being named the “Jeannette O. Wallace” Lecture Hall in memory of longtime New Mexico State Representative Jeannette Wallace.

Co-opRocks! is brought to you by the Los Alamos Co-op as part of their outreach program to young adults (high school and college age). The program is intended to provide young adults a venue to express their interests (music, art, theater, etc.) in a fun and safe atmosphere. Special School Board Meeting Scheduled


The School Board has scheduled a work session on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 9 am at UNMLA Building 1, basement classroom for ESL to meet with GED students regarding their high school experience. 

The School Board has scheduled a Special School Board meeting for Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. at the Los Alamos High School Speech Theater. The only agenda item will be the 2012/2013 Budget.
