Los Alamos High School student Jamie Justice received the Community Youth Award from Champions of Youth Ambitions (C’YA) for August from LAHS Principal Brad Parker.

Justice was nominated by several LAHS staff members for being a role model and demonstrating how one can overcome obstacles with grace and a stellar attitude.

Justice received a certificate and a gift bag for leading by example.

The community is invited to take a journey with astrophysicist Dr. Rick Wallace at 7 p.m., Friday to discover new revelations about the solar system.

Attendees will view the solar system in the planetarium dome at the Los Alamos Nature Center, 2600 Canyon Road and glimpse the possibilities of a new planet.

UNM-Los Alamos will offer a Personal Care Attendant course beginning Oct. 3.
 
The course, PCA 101, will meet 9:15-11:15 a.m., Mondays, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Fridays, through Dec. 16. Students who participate in this 5 credit course will receive a UNM-LA Certificate of Completion upon successful completion of the skills and competencies at the end of the course.

SANTA FE  Santa Fe Community College will offer two leadership programs this fall designed to meet Santa Fe’s need for young community leaders.
 
The sessions are offered on one Saturday per month during the academic year. Youth Leadership Santa Fe sponsored by the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce, runs 8:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., beginning Sept. 24 and prepares teens in the ninth, tenth and eleventh grade for community leadership roles.
