ESPANOLA, NM  Northern New Mexico College has been awarded a $299,997 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for its EDUCERE project to increase enrollment and retention of Native American and Hispanic students in the Engineering Program.

Los Alamos NJROTC defeated William Floyd NJROTC 845 to 670 last week in the National Air Rifle League.
 
With the win, Los Alamos NJROTC is in fifth place in their Division with a 1 – 1 record. Los Alamos NJROTC was led by Neil Wilkerson who shot a 242. The remaining contributing members were Julio Shipman, Kaden Lim, and Thomas Kwei. Los Alamos NJROTC is from Los Alamos, NM, and is coached by Wes Shumaker.

The chance visit of a California Condor to Joe Fitzgibbon’s yard in April of last year inspired him to embark on a journey to learn more about his unusual visitor.

Fitzgibbon will share photos, stories and other information about the California Condor, their life history and recovery efforts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1. This is a free talk at the Los Alamos Nature Center.

The Los Alamos County Library System is hosting the NaNoWriMo program (short for National Novel Writing Month) in November, joining libraries around the world to support and stimulate writers.

I have talked to many people and read many letters with questions about the bond election, in January.
 
First I want to clear up notions about the ballot. Some are saying that the LAPS and UNMLA are trying to hide something, by being on the same ballot. There is nothing to hide, both questions are on the ballot separately. There will be no tax rate increase with the LAPS Bond.
