The Los Alamos High School NJROTC Drill & PT Teams participated in the 2016 Invitational Drill Meet Saturday, Oct. 2 at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell.
 
Hard work, practice, determination and great team work prevailed for the LAHS NJROTC Teams. 
 
Competing against teams from around New Mexico, Texas and Arizona was no small order. The LAHS NJROTC Drill Team participated in the Armed and Unarmed Drill – Regulation/Exhibition, Color Guard – Male/Mixed Teams, PT Male/Female.

Reading Event At New Mexico Museum Of Natural History & Science

ALBUQUERQUE  The Rotary Club of Albuquerque announces their annual Reading is Fun event at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science (NMMNHS).
 
The event is noon to 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 6, on the Museum’s monthly free day.  
 
This family event is appropriate for all ages. Participants each receive passports and will be directed to a variety of literacy activities, including:
  • Puppet Theater, where visitors will be introduced to scientific vocabulary;

Los Alamos NJROTC Defeats Liberty NJROTC

NJROTC News:
 
Los Alamos High School NJROTC defeated Liberty NJROTC 880 to 848 last week in the National Air Rifle League.
 
With the win, Los Alamos NJROTC is in fifth place in their Division with a 2 – 2 record. Los Alamos NJROTC was led by Neil Wilkerson who shot a 249. The remaining contributing members were Thomas Kwei, Julio Shipman, and Michael Archuleta. Los Alamos NJROTC is from Los Alamos, NM, and is coached by Wes Shumaker.

Liberty NJROTC dropped to 0 – 4 on the season. They are currently in ninth place in their Division. Shooting their highest team score of the season

LAPS: Support For Emotional Needs Of Students Identified As Gifted

Close your eyes and take a deep breath.

Thursday, Oct. 13, a dozen parents with gifted children were gathered in the library of Los Alamos Middle School for a Support for the Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG) parent group. They were being led through a guided relaxation exercise because one of the biggest emotional challenges that gifted students face is learning how to deal with stress.
