LAPD Announces Intersection Change On Villa Street

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department is issuing notification to all motorists that the Los Alamos County Traffic and Engineering Department has established a new four-way stop sign intersection.

The intersection at Villa and 33rd Street, in front of Aspen Elementary School, has been converted from a two-way stop to a four- way stop. Officers will be out enforcing this new change.

A motorist approaching an all-way stop is always required to come to a full stop before a crosswalk or stop line. After a full-stop has been made, vehicles have the right-of-way to proceed through the intersection Read More

Renovations Close Fuller Lodge West Entrance Aug. 22

COUNTY News:

As progress continues with interior work at Fuller Lodge, crews with R and M Construction will begin exterior renovations of the west entrance Monday, Aug. 22.

Work includes removal and replacement of concrete sidewalk, stairs and ADA ramp as well as installation of a snow melt system to help keep the entrance free of ice during snow storms. This work will also coincide with the replacement of the stairs and retaining wall outside of the kitchen.

The west entry is expected to be closed for 4-6 weeks to complete the work, weather permitting.

Sheehey: Why Los Alamos Needs A Sheriff

The County Council recently voted 5-2 to put a proposed change to the County Charter on the November 2016 general election ballot to eliminate the office of Sheriff. I have no objection to the voters deciding on this issue, but I voted against the motion because eliminating the Sheriff is a bad idea. We have a Police Department with a multi-million dollar yearly budget, led by an excellent Chief. Why then should Los Alamos County also have an elected Sheriff with a small budget and staff?

The following information is provided by the Los Alamos Police Department. Neither arrests nor charges indicate a conviction, and neither means that a person is guilty of the charges filed against them.

Aug. 10 at 11:25 a.m. / A 55-year-old Los Alamos woman reported that someone damaged her property on Aster Street. The estimated loss is more than $1,000.

Alert: Motorists Can Expect Traffic Delays On Diamond Today

Los Alamos County officials announced that utility work on Orange Street and Diamond Drive will create a 10-minute delay for this evening’s commuters heading north on Diamond Drive.
