Tuesday marked the first day of spring – the vernal equinox – when day and night are each approximately 12 hours long (with the actual time of equal day and night, in the Northern Hemisphere, occurring a few days before the vernal equinox.)
This is when the Sun crosses the celestial equator going northward; it rises exactly due east and sets exactly due west, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.

By 10 a.m. this morning, Republican candidates for county council had all paid their $50 fee and filed to run for one of three available seats.
Roger Waterman arrived first followed by Marc Clay and Vincent Chiravalle filed third.
County Council Chair, Sharon Stover was unable to file in person, but sent a proxy, her husband Steve Girrens. She is seeking the position of County Clerk.
The Clerks Office will draw for ballot position immediately after the filing closes at 5:00 pm.

March 8 at 12:45 p.m. / Police arrested Benjamin Baca, 38, of Los Alamos on Trinity Drive on an outstanding Magistrate Court Warrant for unknown charges.
March 8 at 2:49 p.m. / Los Alamos National Laboratory – Technical Area 50, Building 0001 reported being the victim of larceny at 683 Crossroads. The estimated loss is more than $500.
March 8 at 6:19 a.m. / Police issued a citation
County News:
On Thursday evening, the CIP Evaluation and Oversight Committee reviewed the list of CIP Phase 2 projects that have applied to proceed to Council for Design/Build consideration, and gave a collective “order of preference” listing. The result is shown below.
The list was developed by first taking input from each member of the Committee on their personal order of preference, and then discussing and adjusting the listing to reach and average the total number of points per project.
This exercise was conducted twice in order to work on gaining committee consensus as members listened

Following is a trip report from last week’s visit by PLACE representatives:
Welcome to PLACE, and to our first communication about Los Alamos. We will use this communication tool to keep you up-to-date on our efforts to build a new Creative Community in downtown Los Alamos.
We just returned from a very successful site visit. We were there to determine if the necessary ingredients were in place for us to build a successful new multi-use, sustainable community within the downtown, and more specifically, the downtown Creative District.
