Karen Wray Gallery Hosts Grand Opening Thursday

The community is invited to the grand opening celebration of The Karen Wray Art Gallery, 5-7  p.m. Thursday at 1247 Central Ave., Suite D-2.

Free Training In Los Alamos History

With tourist season in full swing, the Los Alamos Historical Society and Museum are seeking new volunteers for a variety of positions.
 
Training will begin with an introduction session 1-2 p.m., Monday, June 12. A training session focusing on the community’s history and historic district will be offered 1-5 p.m. Thursday, June 15. Both sessions will be in the Nambe Room, upstairs in the west wing of Fuller Lodge.

PEEC Offers New Forest Explorers Program

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is offering a new program this summer for 5 to 8 year olds, called Forest Explorers. This hike-and-play club will take children on weekly hikes, every Wednesday beginning June 14 through Aug. 9, with ample time for child-directed play in nature.

Although the NASA Curiosity rover has investigated Mars since August 2012, it has only recently detected boron on the planet.
 
The presence of this element has implications for questions about abundant water, prebiotic chemistry, and the habitability of Mars. Public Astronomy Dark Night Saturday

Astronomy News:
 
The Pajarito Astronomers will be holding a County-Sponsored Dark Night at 8:15 p.m., Saturday, May 20, at Spirio Soccer Field at Overlook Park in White Rock.
 
Weather permitting, the public is invited to come out, wander among the telescopes, and star gaze. Mars, Jupiter and its moons and Saturn with its rings and moons will potentially be visible during the evening. There will be a tour of the spring constellations, and there will be telescope views of double stars, star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies.
