Lab Stabilization Bill Heads To Governor’s Office!

STATE News:

Senate Bill 17, the Lab Stabilization Bill, passed the House overnight 48-19 and is headed to Gov. Susana Martinez to sign into law.

SB 17 is a bill to stabilize gross receipts tax revenues received from prime contractors at Los Alamos National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories.

Prime contractors have been paying tax since 1979 at Sandia and 2006 at LANL. In Fiscal Year 2016, the State received some $162 million paid through the two Lab contracts through GRT.

PEEC: Guided Eight-Mile Hike In White Rock Canyon

Saturday, Feb. 17, Paul Arendt will lead an eight-mile loop hike connecting the Red Dot Trail to the Blue Dot Trail in which participants will see petroglyphs, springs and the beauty of White Rock Canyon in the winter.

 

This rugged outing begins at 9 a.m., and takes the group about six hours to complete the loop. Space is limited, and registration is required for this hike, organized by the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC).

BCBSNM Awards Healthy Kids, Healthy Families Grant To PEEC And New Mexico Wildlife Center

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) and the New Mexico Wildlife Center (NMWC) have received a Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico Healthy Kids Health Families (HKHF) grant for the popular, free Nature Playtimes program.
 
The grant will ensure that PEEC can continue to provide this program to the community every Monday morning at the Los Alamos Nature Center on Canyon Road.
 
The grant also provides funds for the NMWC to begin a pilot program of Nature Playtimes at its facility

The United States Air Force Academy Band – The Falconaires jazz ensemble from Colorado Springs will perform a free concert at 3 p.m., Feb. 25 at Duane Smith Auditorium.

Los Alamos School Board And Community Budget Committee Meeting Thursday

The Los Alamos School Board and Community Budget Committee will be hosting the first community budget meeting, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the High School Speech Theater to discuss the 2018-19 LAPS budget proposal.

All parents and interested community members are invited to attend and participate in the conversation.

Mesa Public Library Opens At 1 p.m. Feb. 23

COUNTY News:

Mesa Public Library will open at 1 p.m., rather than the normal 10 a.m. opening Friday, Feb. 23, due to fire system testing.

The closure has been postponed one week due to fire system wiring issues.

During this time, the public will not be allowed into the building due to frequent fire alarms going off.  We apologize for any inconvenience.

The crew is working on final testing and programming through Tuesday, Feb. 20 with full functional testing occurring prior to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23.
