Los Alamos radio station KRSN AM 1490 is a finalist for the National Association of Broadcasters’ Crystal Radio Awards for the station’s coverage of the Las Conchas Fire.  Crystal Radio Award finalists are chosen by a panel of judges representing broadcasting, community service organizations and public relations firms. Finalists will be honored and winners announced at an exclusive luncheon

Patent Attorney to Speak at The Hive

Attorney Rod D. Baker will give a presentation regarding intellectual property and the ongoing major changes in U.S. patent law to the Los Alamos Entrepreneurs’ Network at 6 p.m., April 26 at The Hive.

Baker was born and raised in Los Alamos and still considers himself a “Hilltopper.”

He has 24 years experience in the law and for the last 20 years, his practice has been limited to patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights, and related matters.

Chamber Business Breakfast to Focus on Broadband Thursday

Chamber News:

Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce is hosting a business breakfast at 8 a.m. Thursday at UNM-Los Alamos.

The breakfast meeting will focus on the plan to bring community-wide broadband to Los Alamos.

Broadband planners John Jones and Estevan Gonzales will visit with business owners at the event to both show them the plan and also to get input on business needs for the new infrastructure.

The breakfast is free to all businesspeople, Chamber members and prospective Chamber members.

Agenda:

  • 8-9 a.m. presentation and Q & A session
  • 9-10 a.m. focus groups – small group discussion

‘Dixie Girl’ Restaurant Opening Downtown

In a few weeks time the space occupied by Central Avenue Grill, which closed Saturday night, will be transformed into a cool, urban edgy styled eatery called the Dixie Girl.

Local business leader Denise Lane began formulating the idea for her new restaurant three years ago and today assumes ownership of the property at 1801 Central Ave. Her goal is to open the Dixie Girl for lunch on Memorial Day, May 28.

She is required to wait 100 days before she can implement her liquor license so she’ll spend the time

Sierra Club Pajarito Group Hosts Regina Wheeler Talk

Chief Executive Officer Regina Wheeler of Positive Energy Solar Electric Systems and Solar Advisor Karlis Viceps of Positive Energy will discuss economic, design and installation considerations for solar photovoltaic systems at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 4 in the Upstairs meeting rooms at Mesa Public Library.  

The Sierra Club Pajarito Group is hosting the talk.

Wheeler holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering and has 20 years of experience in organizational leadership and optimizing operations.

Central Avenue Grill Owners to Host Farewell Event Saturday Night

Central Avenue Grill owners Min and Monica Park are hosting a community appreciation party from 5-7:30 p.m. Saturday to thank Los Alamos for its support as they prepare to shut down the restaurant at 1789 Central Ave.

One free drink and appetizers will be provided – a $5 donation is encouraged – all proceeds are to go to the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation.
