Student Donates Celestial Tree Sculpture To Highlands

LAS VEGAS, NM An 11-foot-tall steel tree sculpture depicting the total solar eclipse of 2018 is planted firmly in the earth in front of New Mexico Highlands’ Burris Hall, thanks to a donation from a fine arts student.
 
The university’s Board of Regents voted unanimously to approve fine arts senior Mary Miller’s Celestial Tree sculpture installation in front of the fine arts building.

NHCC Hosts Bless Me, Ultima Reading Oct. 14

ALBUQUERQUE ― The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) will present a beginning-to-end reading of Rudolfo Anaya’s acclaimed novel, Bless Me, Ultima Sunday, Oct. 14.
 
The reading will take place in the NHCC Art Museum where an exhibition, La Ultima Exhibición, enters its final month.
 
Over 40 dignitaries, New Mexico authors, youth (including school students), adults and elders will read, each for 15 minutes, between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.
 
The reading is free and open to the public with museum entrance fee. Museum admission is $6 for adults (17+), $5

The Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization (LARSO) and Champions of Youth Ambitions (C’YA) have announced the date.
 
The event is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17. The theme for this year’s community tree festival is SNOW and community members are asked to donate just one item for the effort.
 
The event is a fundraiser for youth and senior programs. The donation of holiday items are appreciated for what is often a 100+ item silent auction.
