LAPS Superintendent Dr. Kurt Steinhaus
To Everyone at LAPS:
As we approach Thanksgiving this year, I am especially thankful for all of the staff, students, and families that make Los Alamos Public Schools so special!
I am in awe at how we are able to create classroom and school communities where students feel welcomed, where learning is valued, and where each individual’s special gifts are recognized – staff and students.
We live in a community that is not only located in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, it also has great schools that are getting better, safe neighborhoods, and caring and sharing people that often volunteer for school events. Our students are fortunate to have outstanding teachers and support personnel. And the list goes on…
I am also mindful that not everyone in our community has experienced these wonderful blessings. Many families and students are in need of emotional support, tutoring, mental health services, financial stability, and help for other life challenges. And Thanksgiving is a time to reach out and help in unusual ways and to take time to share our blessings.
This holiday gives us an opportunity to step back from the many demands of work to help others and to further appreciate family and friends.
As part of celebrating Thanksgiving, let’s also remember that, a few weeks ago, we recognized and honored our Veterans. There are many LAPS staff and community members who have served or are serving our country through military service. We are also surrounded by those who work at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Let’s take a few moments to think about these honorable men and women, some who are far away from home.
Thank you for your hard work, your focus on what is best for students, and the many sacrifices you make, large and small, on behalf of Los Alamos Public Schools.
Have a safe and enjoyable holiday!
