  • Los Alamos Youth Football League Completes Remarkable Season

A special kind of magic happened to the Los Alamos Youth Football League this season between a group of dedicated coaches, conscientious players and supportive parents.

The organization hosted a special banquet Friday evening at New Beginning Fellowship to honor these players, parents, coaches, commissioners and everyone who took the time to help the players this year.

“Our kids earned a lot of recognition this year for the hard work they put into playing a game of tackle football,” said Los Alamos Division II Head Coach Brad Brothers. “We played every single game this year undersized to our opponents and the boys played every single game with more heart, teamwork, intelligence, and perseverance than I’ve ever seen in a group of kids this young or even older. Our Super Bowl was recorded and the announcers stated more than once that the Los Alamos parents are the 12th player on the field.”

The Extreme family played 12 games and only lost two of those games this year, Brothers said. In the 12 games played, Extreme scored 274 points and only allowed 74 points.

 “The coaches and parents could not be any more proud of this young football,” he said. “After our Super Bowl I don’t think a single parent could talk, and the same thing happened for our State Tournament a last weekend. Our Super Bowl was recorded and the announcers stated more than once that the Los Alamos parents are the 12th player on the field.”

This season’s accomplishments include:

  • NNMCFL league champions with a 7-1 record;
  • NNMCFL League Super Bowl winners with a 2-0 record; and
  • A 1-1 record at the state championships in Albuquerque, bringing home a 2nd place trophy.

The Los Alamos Extreme plays in the Northern New Mexico Children’s League (NNMCFL).

“Out of the three years I have been a part of this organization this has been by far the best season ever,” LAYFL President Tabatha Jones said. “These kids have done an amazing job and we are so proud of them all. Our parents have been so wonderful and supportive and we couldn’t have done it without them.”
