An opening date for the local Subway is getting very close, according to Connie Gemignani, director of operations for Clearstone Development of Southern Colorado & New Mexico, the development agent for Subway.

She arrived in town this morning to meet with Los Alamos Subway franchise owner Larry Singh. Gemignani is going over final details with Singh prior to announcing the opening date for the store, which is anticipated to be later next week.

“We’re excited to be in the Los Alamos community … as a brand, we highly value providing our customers with the freshest breads and food products and look forward to ensuring our customers are happy with the location, the store and the service,” Gemignani said. “When we open the doors we invite everyone to come in and bring a friend.”

Clearstone Development of Southern Colorado & New Mexico took over the regional territory for Subway last May, Gemignani said, adding that the previous development agent had Singh as well as other franchisees operating in some ways that were not up to Subway’s national brand standards, and also had Singh sit with his store unopened for a while.

“As a national brand, it needs to be uniform throughout,” she said.

There are 400 stores in the New Mexico and Southern Colorado region, including 155 in New Mexico. The Los Alamos Subway is the third store to open in New Mexico this year, Gemignani said. Store openings include one in Gallup and one in Taos and she said there will be a new store opening in Santa Fe in a month or so.
