LAPS News:

Even though school does not start until Thursday Aug. 17, Los Alamos secondary students are already busy with athletics and activities. This is after a summer filled with camps and clinics.

The football team and band have completed two full weeks of grueling practice. The ROTC students and Solar Eclipse team are in full production mode. Others already preparing to compete include boys and girls cross country, boys and girls soccer, tennis, golf and volleyball teams.

This year, LAPS is partnering with the Positive Coaching Alliance to better support our students in academics, athletics and activities. LAPS is encouraging all students to make self better, teammates better and the game better. Los Alamos sports and activities offer an unparalleled opportunity for young people to learn life lessons and become positive contributors and ethical leaders. Over half of the local high school students participate in athletics.

Help “pack the stands” with enthusiastic supporters and loud cheering for these students. As a start, the whole town is encouraged to attend:

  • Topper Girls Soccer vs Santa Fe at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19; and
  • Topper Boys Soccer vs St. Mike’s, 4:30-7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19.
