Stratton: LAMC Committed To Quality Obstetric And Gynecological Care Close To Home

By: TRACIE STRATTON
Interim CEO
Los Alamos Medical Center

At Los Alamos Medical Center, we are incredibly proud that families choose us as the place where they want to welcome a new baby. Our obstetrics unit has a rich history of providing services to this community since 1952, and over the years, we’ve served thousands of families with a broad spectrum of high quality obstetric and gynecologic care. We know that physician departures and transitions in recent years have raised questions about the future of our OB services from patients and community members. I want to reassure you that we are committed to the long-term sustainability of these services right here in Los Alamos. In fact, our team is already hard at work in our recruiting efforts and I am pleased to share that we have several interested providers.

In the meantime, we are fortunate to have experienced staff members and access to locum providers to assist us with this transition. We are committed to continue providing obstetrics and gynecology coverage for our patients as we recruit permanent physicians to join our team.

Our entire mother and baby program is top notch. In addition to general obstetrics and pediatrics care, we are blessed to offer Northern New Mexico’s only special care nursery, where we specialize in our ability to care for babies that need a little extra attention. These babies are cared for by a board-certified neonatologist, neonatal nurse practitioners and a compassionate team of nurses. We offer childbirth education classes and lactation consulting services led by certified specialists. We also work closely with an amazing group of local doulas to accommodate additional individualized birthing options. The best part is all this great care is available right here in Los Alamos – close to home.

Again, I want to assure you that there are no shuttered doors in labor and delivery at LAMC, and we are excited for what’s to come as we continue to expand and improve this important service line.

We will be sure to keep the community informed as more information becomes available. It is a great privilege to serve the healthcare needs of you and your family. Thank you for entrusting your care to LAMC.
