Steinhaus: Update From Los Alamos Public Schools

From Superintendent Kurt Steinhaus
Los Alamos Public Schools

Dear LAPS Parents and Families,

I am pleased to report that 2,816 students have registered for the Hybrid (2,572, 91.3%) or Online (244, 8.7%) option – thank you!

For those still considering options, please make every effort to complete a registration for each child by 5:00 pm on Wednesday July 8, 2020.  Your choice will help in determining the right level of staffing to meet student needs.

Both options will provide highly skilled teachers facilitating hands-on minds-on activities, social emotional learning, and a full curriculum. For students who receive special education, services to address IEP goals will be designed to provide educational benefit in all settings. IEPs will be developed for in-person and remote learning.

Our ultimate goal is to have all students attending school five days a week with a full suite of options for sports and activities. In the short term, however, we will closely follow the most current health order and will be ready to make adjustments based upon infection rates.

We are using the CDC Readiness and Planning Tool to help protect students, staff, and communities and slow the spread of COVID-19.

These are challenging times for all of us. It is not going to be easy; but I am confident that we can figure this out and provide high quality educational experiences for your children.
