SANTA FE – New Mexico Department of Health officials have announced 52 new COVID-19 cases today.
Los Alamos County reports zero new cases so the total remains 537 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)
This update includes 2 new deaths in New Mexico today related to COVID-19.
The New Mexico Department of Health reports today the most recent cases:
- 14 new cases in Bernalillo County
- 1 new case in Chaves County
- 2 new cases in Doña Ana County

NNSA Approves Critical Decision 1 For Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility
NNSA News:
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) has announced the approval of the Critical Decision 1 (CD-1) milestone for the recommended approach to produce at least 50 plutonium pits per year for the Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility (SRPPF) project at the Savannah River Site (SRS).
CD-1 approval marks the completion of the project definition phase and the conceptual design as part of DOE’s Order 413.3B process for the acquisition of capital assets.

New Mexico State Police Activate Sobriety Checkpoints And Saturation Patrols In Counties Across State In July
NMSP News:
New Mexico State Police (NMSP) will be conducting sobriety checkpoints; saturation patrols; and registration, insurance, and driver’s license checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during the month of July 2021.
NMSP is bringing awareness to these events in an effort to reduce alcohol related fatalities through continued media attention and intensive advertising.
