New Mexico COVID-19 Update: 271 New Cases, Totaling 207,972 With 5 New Deaths And 196,277 Recovered

SANTA FE — New Mexico state health officials Wednesday announced 271 additional COVID-19 cases.
Los Alamos County reports zero new cases so the total remains 546 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)
This update includes 5 new deaths in New Mexico related to COVID-19.
Per the state Department of Health, the most recent cases are:
- 77 new cases in Bernalillo County
- 1 new case in Catron County

SANTA FE — Teachers with outstanding student debt may be eligible for up to $6,000 per year via the Teacher Loan Repayment Program administered by the New Mexico Higher Education Department (NMHED).

Caballo Volunteer Firefighter Dies In Tragic Accident
State News:
At approximately 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, a firefighter from the Caballo Volunteer Fire Department in Sierra County died in a tragic accident.
The firefighter was struck and severely injured when the fire apparatus was backing up to better warn and divert oncoming traffic at the scene of a one vehicle accident on Interstate 25 southbound.
Caballo Fire had been dispatched to the scene of the accident to provide aid and support. The firefighter was immediately rendered aid, but died as a result of the injuries.
