SANTA FE ― The City of Alamogordo last week paid more than $250,000 to an unknown scam artist, and recovery of that public money is likely to be difficult if not impossible.

In light of that scam, State Auditor Wayne Johnson is reminding all of the state’s government entities to be extremely cautious and aware when it comes to e-mail communication from any vendors.

WASHINGTON, D.C. ― U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich and U.S. Reps. Ben Ray Luján, Steve Pearce and Michelle Lujan Grisham have urged the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) to reverse the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on Canadian newsprint, which threaten to devastate local newspapers across New Mexico.

DEA-Led Probe Leads To Second Honduran Congressman Charged With Drug Trafficking And Weapons Crimes

NEW YORK ― DEA and the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday that charges have been filed in New York federal court against Honduran congressman Midence Oqueli Martinez Turcios, and in a separate indictment, Arnaldo Urbina Soto, Carlos Fernando Urbina Soto and Miguel Angel Urbina Soto.

The charges in each indictment include conspiring to import cocaine into the United States and related weapons offenses involving the use and possession of machine guns and destructive devices. The United States is seeking the defendants’ extraditions from Honduras.

ANGEL FIRE ― A Native American Veterans Exhibit will open Aug. 4 at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Angel Fire.
