WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) announced the completion of the Argus security project at the Device Assembly Facility (DAF) at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) near Las Vegas.
Argus will enhance the security mission to protect nuclear material and other assets that are critical to NNSA’s national security work.

NMDGF To Host Two Public Meetings On Proposed Revisions To Habitat Stamp Program Sept. 10 & 28

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish (NMDGF) has scheduled two public meetings on proposed revisions to the Public Land User Stamp Rule 19.34.6 NMAC (Habitat Stamp Program Rule).
A short presentation providing background information about the Habitat Stamp Program and details of the proposed revisions will be given.

SANTA FE – New Mexico state health officials have announced this afternoon 152 additional positive tests for COVID-19.
Los Alamos County remains at 27 cases that have tested positive for COVID-19.
Today’s update announces 6 additional deaths reported in New Mexico related to COVID-19.

The Los Alamos High School Symphonic Strings Orchestra has been recognized as the January 2021 All-State Honor Orchestras Ensemble by the New Mexico Music Educators Association (NMMEA).
Since the All-State performance will not be held in person, LAPS team members will collaborate to create a video of the students’ work, which will be showcased Jan. 7, 2021 virtually.

Continuous Pathways Foundation Awards NDI NM $5K Grant

SANTA FE — NDI New Mexico was awarded a $5,000 grant in March from the Continuous Pathways Foundation in Pojoaque.
The funding was used to support NDI New Mexico’s programs in Pojoaque and the Española Valley during the end of the 2019-20 school year.
NDI New Mexico’s North Program serves 545 Northern New Mexico children and 9 public and BIE elementary schools through participation in NDI New Mexico’s transformative outreach in-school and advanced training programs.

State Departments Collaborate To Launch Virtual Job Readiness Training Series

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Human Services Department’s Behavioral Health Services Division is spearheading a collaborative effort to increase the number of Certified Peer Support Workers (CPSWs) working in substance abuse and addiction recovery programs across the state.
The New Mexico Office of Peer Recovery and Engagement (OPRE) and the New Mexico Workforce Connection are key partners in the initiative. The second of two virtual sessions will take place Sept. 24-25, after a successful inaugural event that wrapped up last month.

FBI Seeks Information In Death Of Woman Near Camel Rock
FBI News:
The FBI is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the circumstances surrounding the death of Destinee Alexis Atencio, whose body was found June 22, 2019 near Camel Rock in Tesuque Pueblo.
An autopsy was unable to determine the cause of her death. Atencio, who was 21 at the time, was last seen by a relative in Santa Fe sometime in April 2019.
Atencio may have been dead for at least a couple of weeks before her body was found. Atencio was 5’6” tall and approximately 135 pounds. She had brown eyes and black hair.

Los Alamos National Laboratory hosted a Conversation on Education and Workforce Wednesday via Zoom.
LANL Community Partnerships Office Director Kathy Keith moderated the event.
Laboratory Director Thom Mason opened the meeting addressing Laboratory workforce needs.
“The Laboratory has been in a mode of increased hiring,” Mason said. “About half of the new employees are replacing retirees and the other half represent staff growth. This is the highest rate of hiring in 30 years.”
