SFNF Prescribed Burns For Remainder Of 2016

SFNF News:
 
SANTA FE  Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest are planning to conduct multiple prescribed burns across the forest between now and the end of the year. Any decision to burn will be dependent on favorable conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts.
 
Here is a list of planned burns:
 
Coyote Ranger District
  • Mesa Potrero – 470 acres on Mesa Alta 7 miles northwest of Coyote
  • French Mesa – 5,041 acres located 10 miles south of Gallina

SANTA FE – Initial surveys on the Santa Fe National Forest’s Southwest Jemez Mountains Collaborative Landscape Restoration project underestimated the incidence and severity of dwarf mistletoe infection in some stands. Stands along Forest Road (FR) 10 are heavily infected with the native parasitic plant that reduces the growth, seed production and life span of infected trees.

SANTA FE – Today, Gov. Susana Martinez announced a new Top 10 list of the state’s most wanted DWI fugitives.

The initiative is part of the administration’s efforts announced by the governor last year to locate and capture repeat DWI offenders – including those who have killed or seriously injured families on the road – who have skipped out on parole or probation and are now hiding from the law.

FBI: Mescalero Apache Man Sentenced For Assaulting Federal Officer

FBI News: 

ALBUQUERQUE – Ryan Joseph Chavez, 40, an enrolled member of the Mescalero Apache Nation who resides in Mescalero, N.M., was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Las Cruces to eight months in prison followed by one year of supervised release for assaulting a federal officer. 

Chavez was arrested Oct. 16, 2015, on a criminal complaint charging him with assaulting a Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) officer May 6, 2015, in Otero County. According to the complaint, Chavez assaulted the officer while the officer was attempting to place Chavez under arrest.

NNSA Rescinds Contract Award For NNSS Management To NVS3T Following Discovery Of New Ownership

NNSA News:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Aug. 26, 2016, the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) awarded the contract for the management and operation of the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) to Nevada Site Science Support and Technologies Corporation (NVS3T). 

The winning proposal identified NVS3T as a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin. In making the award, NNSA evaluated past performance and other factors based upon the proposal as submitted.

DOE Exercises Both Option Periods On LANL Cleanup Bridge Contract

EM-LA News:

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Environmental Management – Los Alamos Field Office (EM-LA) exercised both the first and second option periods on the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Bridge Contract today.

Each option period is for six-months and have a combined total value of $154.7 million. Exercising both option periods now extends the contract to Sept. 30, 2017. Prior to exercising these two options, the contract would have expired Sept. 30, 2016.
