First Native Home Loan Intermediary Approved

ALBUQUERQUE ― USDA Rural Development Acting State Director Eric Vigil announced, Native Community Finance (NCF) has been approved to become the agency’s newest “intermediary” or packager.

This certification is crucial since it is the first one given to a Native entity in the nation. This means NCF will help Native residents living in New Mexico apply for home loans utilizing USDA Rural Development’s Direct Home Loan Program on Tribal trust lands.

New Chamisa K-Kids Club Collects Books For African School Library

The new Chamisa School K-Kids Club is collecting books to create a 1,000 book school library for the Bwaila LEA School in Zomba City, Malawi, Africa. This is being done in cooperation with the African Library Project. (Learn more at www.africanlibraryproject.org ).

Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks Monument Closed April 16-17

ALBUQUERQUE ― The Bureau of Land Management is announcing that Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument near White Rock is closing Easter Sunday, April 16 and Monday, April 17.

These closures will allow members of the Cochiti Pueblo exclusive access to the monument for traditional cultural and religious activities. The Monument will reopen to the public Tuesday, April 18 during its regular hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the entrance gate closing at 6 p.m.

RTD Mountain Trail Route Goes Year Round

The North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD) has announced that its 255 RTD Mountain Trail route, which began Sept. 26, 2015 as a pilot public transit service has now been established as a year-round route.

SANTA FE ― Fire crews completed the 340-acre prescribed fire Tuesday afternoon in the Santa Fe Watershed.

Transport winds from the south are expected to continue into the evening, pushing the smoke north of Santa Fe. Moisture, including higher humidity and the possibility of scattered showers, is moving into the area and is expected to further mitigate the smoke with minimal impact on the Santa Fe metro area.
