As the weather continues to be hot and dry with widely scattered thunderstorms, the fishing in the lakes and rivers is slowing down as the water warms and streamflows drop. This time of the year the best fishing is often to be had early in the morning or late in the evening.

‘Secret Pass’ Opens At Bradbury Science Museum

The Behind the Fence exhibit gives visitors a 360-degree immersive experience of key park properties at the Lab.

The Bradbury Science Museum will open three new exhibits and a video as part of a new experience called “Manhattan on the Mesa.” The exhibits will be dedicated 4-6 p.m., July 14 at a public opening.

“With these exhibits we help visitors to the Manhattan Project National Historical Park experience the park properties at the Laboratory that are not yet open to the public,” Museum Director Linda Deck said.

Northern New Mexico College invites community members, conservationists and interested parties to The El Rito Watershed from the Ground Up Conference, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 14 at Northern’s El Rito campus.

The conference is premised on the notion that natural communities are dependent upon their watersheds, which when carefully used and protected, can continuously sustain productive local economies with a high quality of life.

FBI: Sunland Park Heroin Trafficking Ring Member Carlos Diaz Sentenced

ALBUQUERQUE ― Carlos Diaz, 37, of El Paso, Texas, was sentenced June 29 in federal court in Las Cruces for his conviction on heroin trafficking charges resulting from a DEA-led investigation targeting a heroin trafficking ring operating out of Sunland Park.

Diaz was sentenced to an 18-month term of imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release.

The DEA’s investigation targeted a heroin trafficking organization led by Raymundo Munoz, 69, of Sunland Park that obtained its heroin from Juan Francisco Rivera, 60, of El Paso, Texas. The investigation

As a result of the administrative reorganization taking place at UNM Press, the New Mexico Book Co-op will be having a fact-finding lunch with the Interim Provost of UNM Dr. Craig White and Dean Dr. Richard Clement of UNM Libraries who is scheduled to take over as administrative contact for UNM Press this summer.

NM Book Co-op has requested that the new Director of UNM Press also be present since the last day for the current Director of UNM Press, John Byram, is July 25. It is unknown who the new Director of UNM Press will be. Dean Clement was involved with the decision

BLM Helium Sales Generate $115 Million For Taxpayers

AMARILLO, Texas ― The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced that $115 million generated from the 2016 sale and auction of crude helium from the Federal Helium Reserve is being transferred to the U.S. Treasury.

The Federal Helium Reserve is a resource owned by the American people and managed by the BLM’s Amarillo, Texas, Field Office. The helium revenues were received in accordance with the Helium Stewardship Act of 2013, which provided for market-based pricing and competitive auctions for the sale of Federal helium.

WASHINGTON, D.C. ― U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich, and U.S. Reps. Ben Ray Luján and Michelle Lujan Grisham announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) will review the level of access that New Mexicans have to behavioral health services provided through the Medicaid program.
