U.S. Sen. John Sidney McCain III died at 4:28 p.m. today at his home in Arizona. He was 81.

According to a statement from his office, McCain had suffered from a malignant brain tumor for which he had been treated periodically with radiation and chemotherapy since its discovery in 2017. Following the diagnosis, he took a reduced role in the United States Senate. McCain’s family announced Friday that he would no longer seek treatment for his cancer to prolong his life; he died today, four days before his 82nd birthday.

A man with short bleached hair and wearing a gray T-shirt robbed a northeast Albuquerque bank Monday, Aug. 20.
 
The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male in his 30s, approximately 5’5” to 5’6” tall, with short dark hair that was bleached on top. He wore a long-sleeve black shirt under a gray T-shirt with the words “Cinch Denim” on the front. The suspect also wore sunglasses, tan pants and dark shoes.

Deputies with the Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Office (RASO) were involved early this morning in a police shooting. The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was contacted to investigate this shooting incident.

Preliminary information indicates that around 1 a.m. today, RASO received a call about a fight in progress at the Jemez Electric Company on US 84/285 in Rio Arriba County. RASO deputies responded to Jemez Electric and found no sign of a fight in progress.

Udall, Heinrich, Luján Announce $1.48 Million For Los Alamos Electric Buses

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich and U.S. Representative Ben Ray Luján announced that the Department of Transportation has awarded Los Alamos Atomic City Transit $1.485 million through the Low or No Emission Grant Program to purchase new zero-emission battery electric buses to replace the City’s existing diesel fleet.

Atomic City Transit offers transit service in both Los Alamos and White Rock, ADA complementary paratransit, and a shuttle service to Bandelier National Monument during peak visitor season.
