SANTA FE — The New Mexico Health Care Authority (NMHCA) has issued a request for proposals (RFPs) for pharmaceutical benefits management services that could lower prescription drug costs for more than 168,000 public employees and their families statewide, with proposals due Nov. 3.
“By joining with our IBAC partners, the State of New Mexico is leveraging its purchasing power to deliver pharmacy benefits that are transparent, affordable, and member-centered,” NMHCA Deputy Cabinet Secretary Alex Castillo Smith said. “Together, we are negotiating from a position of strength to drive down costs, improve service, and support community pharmacies across New Mexico. This is about using the power of collaboration to deliver better results for the people we serve, and we’re looking for partners committed to this vision.”
These procurements are part of the Health Care Authority’s (HCA) ongoing reforms to ensure that members receive high-quality, affordable healthcare that meets their needs.
Selected vendors will be expected to improve member experience, deliver measurable health outcomes, and maintain broad, stable provider networks.
The HCA is seeking proposals that prioritize:
- Adopting a transparent drug purchasing model that puts members and affordability first.
- Implementing custom value-based cost-sharing programs for drugs with high clinical efficacy and improved health outcomes.
- Prioritizing community pharmacy support.
- Leveraging state purchasing power to get the best pricing for the state and our members.
- Raising the standards for customer service and community pharmacy access.
