State Auditor Wayne Johnson Sanctioned And Fined

State Auditor Wayne Johnson

Democratic Party of New Mexico News:

The Bernalillo County Code of Conduct Review Board voted unanimously Wednesday to sanction and fine State Auditor Wayne Johnson after Johnson broke campaign finance rules during his run for Mayor of Albuquerque by accepting $1,500 more than allowed from a donor with business or contracts with the City of Albuquerque.

Johnson’s lawyer argues that the county’s financial disclosure rules don’t apply to Johnson or mayoral races.

“Wayne Johnson, according to his lawyer, thinks the rules don’t apply to him,” said Marg Elliston, chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico. “It’s almost laughable that Wayne Johnson thinks he can violate our trust, deny that he’s accountable to us, and still believe New Mexicans would trust him to be their state auditor.”
