I had my first lunch at the White Rock Senior Center on St. Patrick’s Day and, as the luck of the Irish would have it, they were serving Corned Beef and Cabbage.

The room was filled with green — green sweaters, green shirts, green beads, green flashing necklaces and green hats. Even the senior dog was dressed up with a green bow tie!

Thanks to Michael the Chef, the meal was top o’ the line. Corned beef cooked to perfection, the softest and fluffiest potatoes, and sweet Irish soda bread — which I’d never had before — that made me want to eat the whole loaf! I finished with some pineapple and green jell-o (of course!) and a piece of marbled cake decorated brightly in green.

I made new friends as I wandered around the room talking and taking pictures. I don’t think of myself as “old”, but if what I saw today was any indication of what “old” is, I can’t wait to get there!

Leprechaun Lisa told me that Michael the Chef will be receiving a newly renovated kitchen. Although lunch at the White Rock Senior Center will be on hold until the end of March, the regulars can go to the Betty Ehart Senior Center in Los Alamos in the meantime. I can’t wait to taste what Michael the Chef can do in the new kitchen at the White Rock Senior Center. Stay tuned!
