Take Off With Jemez Mountain Trail Runs May 25

Hundreds of athletes from across the Southwest will make a run for Los Alamos to compete in the 8 annual Jemez Mountain Trail Runs May 25.
Runners have already filled the available spaces for the popular half-marathon for which there is now a wait list.
The competitive half-marathon, 50-mile and 50K runs take place along single track trails and dirt roads in the idyllic Jemez Mountains, including Pajarito Mountain and the Valles Caldera National Preserve, the Southwest region’s only supervolcano.

If you love baseball and softball and are looking for a way to become involved in youth sports but don’t have the time to commit to coaching a team, umpiring may be the perfect way to volunteer for White Rock Little League.
Every Minor A, Major, Junior and Senior game requires two umpires, so there are plenty of opportunities to call a game.
The typical time commitment for an umpire is 30 minutes prior to the game time until approximately 10 minutes after game time. (Average game time is two hours.) You can call as many or as few games as you like.

Alex Kirk Invited to Tryout for USA Basketball Men’s World University Games Team

UNM junior center Alex Kirk of Los Alamos has been invited to tryout for the the USA Basketball Men’s World University Games team that will compete July 7-16 in Kazan, Russia. Tryouts start June 24 in Colorado Springs.
UNM senior guard Kendall Williams also received an invitation to tryout for the team.
Davidson head coach Bob McKillop coaches the USA Basketball Men’s World University Games team.
Guard/small forward DeShawn Delaney of Vincennes University junior college in Indiana will make an official recruiting visit to UNM next week. Read More

CHARGER AQUATICS News:
Swimmers from the Charger Aquatics – Los Alamos team competed this past weekend (April 26-28) in the 2013 Colorado TOPS Spring Open meet at the University of Denver.
This was their first long-course meet for the upcoming summer season. The swimmers had some good swims, but the highlight of the trip was getting to meet 2012 Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin, whose club team also was participating in the competition.
