Brian Newnam Is Top Predictor In Weekly Pace Race

Brian Newnam is the best predictor at 3 seconds off his predicted time in the Atomic City Road Runners weekly pace race held Tuesday evening at Dinosaur Park on Barranca Mesa.

Other accurate predictors include:

  • Mark Bjorklund with a 9 second differential
  • Matthew Kerr at 15 seconds off as well as the best finisher in the 3 mile distance with a time of 20:15;
  • Elizabeth Atkins with a 21 second difference; and

Six Named To LAHS Athletics Hall Of Fame For 2021

SPORTS News:

The Los Alamos High School (LAHS Athletic Department will induct its 7th LAHS Athletics Hall of Fame event during  the 2021 Homecoming Weekend Sept. 17-18.

Class of 2021 Inductees:

  • Kristen (Hemphill) Nichols;
  • Ashley Bonner;
  • Brian Cocking;
  • Barry Kiess;
  • Bradley Skidmore; and
  • Diane Wood-Gordon.

The inductees will be invited to participate in the Homecoming Parade Friday, Sept. 17 and introduced at the football game that evening.

LAHS Senior Orion Henderson Named Swimming High School All-America In 200 Individual Medley, 500 Freestyle

Los Alamos High School senior Orion Henderson was named High School All-America for swimming by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (NISCA) for his 200 individual medley and 500 free performances at the New Mexico state high school meet on May 15.

Henderson’s times of 1:50.69 for the 200 IM and 4:35.37 for the 500 freestyle handily bested the state meet field.

His two individual wins helped propel the Hilltopper boys to their second straight state team title this past season.

Los Alamos High School senior Kelly Wetteland and her sister, sophomore Anna Wetteland, who recently moved here from Maryville, Tenn., were named High School All-America by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (NISCA) for their performances at the TISCA Tennessee state high school meet held April 24-25 in Knoxville.

Kelly finished second at the meet in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.14) to earn All-America status.
