Pastor Granillo: A Royal Priesthood…

By Pastor Raul Granillo
Los Alamos

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood…” (1 Peter 2:9 NASB).

Being God’s chosen people is simply being the people who have accepted the love-founded-grace that God extends to every person through the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Of course, Peter reminds the reader that we are more than just a “chosen people;” we are also a “royal priesthood.”

To be honest, I have to wonder how many of us have a misperception of what that means. When we hear “priest,” we may think of the head of the local church who has authority over his congregation; we may think Read More

Pastor Granillo: A Chosen People…

By Pastor Raul Granillo
Los Alamos

But you are a chosen people… (1 Peter 2:9 NIV)

When my elementary school P.E. teacher told us we would be playing a team sport I would always throw out a quick prayer. “Dear God, please let our teacher pick me as a team captain.”

I did this because I knew that if I wasn’t chosen as a team captain then I would have to stand in the ranks and go through the torturous practice of being “picked”. I wasn’t athletic, and I wasn’t popular, so you can imagine how that went down for me. And when I was in school, your draft position said a great deal about what others thought of your talent Read More

Pastor Granillo: Honoring The Saints

By Pastor Raul Granillo
Los Alamos

“The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children.” – Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Chapter 11 of the book of Hebrews is often referred to as The Hall of Faith. It is called so because it contains the names and accounts of many of the people in the Old Testament who exemplified a life of faith in God.

It is certainly not exhaustive—by its own admission (v. 32)—but it does serve to remind the reader of the many that have gone before and the many that continue to journey down a path of faithfulness to God.

Nov. 1 is celebrated as All Saints Read More

Pastor Granillo: Life After, or Before, Death?

By Pastor Raul Granillo
Los Alamos

“If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men” (1 Corinthians 15:19 NIV).

There are, and have always seemed to have been, those who think that the concept of a god is nice for establishing morals in society but it really serves no other purpose. There are some think that religion has outgrown its usefulness and is only a source of ignorance and intolerance. Today, there are a great number of people who believe that Jesus was a great moral teacher, but nothing more; and most certainly not a god nor the only real God.

Pastor Granillo: The Pursuit of?

By Pastor Raul Granillo
Los ALamos

“Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away” (1 Corinthians 13:8 NIV).

The Constitution of the United States says that every person is, “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Have you ever considered just how much time, energy, and other resources we pour into our pursuit of happiness? It seems as if we are constantly working in order to pursue happiness, and as Read More

Pastor Granillo: Do We Love?

Pastor Raul Granillo
Los Alamos

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love” (1 Corinthians 13:13 NIV).

The idea of love is about as vague today as it was when Paul wrote this. For some, it is the most powerful emotion; for others it is a source of vulnerability that is destined to hurt.

There are some who think that love is all we need to bring this world together; and there are some who think that love is a once in a lifetime thing that people need to watch for so that they do not miss their opportunity at a happily-ever-after life. We talk a lot about love in our lives, Read More

The Caring Institute was founded in 1985 by Val J. Halamandaris after a meeting with Mother Teresa, who told him there was a poverty of the spirit in the developed world that was much worse than the poverty of the body seen in the developing world.

When she directed him to do something about it, he founded an awards program that identifies those who give back to society

Pastor Granillo: Constant Change

By Pastor RAUL GRANILLO
Los Alamos

Schoolwork has changed drastically since I was a kid. I realized this a few years ago when my oldest daughter started school, but it was only a little while back that I considered how much it had changed even between my time and my parents’ time.

I remember telling my mom about the new Apple IIe’s at our elementary school and how amazed she was at the idea of computers in public schools. Things had certainly changed since she was a child decades before.

We have all heard, many times, that the only constant is change. Peter wrote—almost 2,000 years ago—that, “[God’s] Read More
