Human Genetics

Due to billions of years of evolution, humans share genes with all living organisms. The percentage of genes or DNA that organisms share records their similarities. We share more genes with organisms that are closely related to us. For example, Read More

“We adore chaos because we love to produce order.” – M.C. Escher

I doubt that too many would argue about mankind’s inherit desire to produce order out the chaos of this world. As soon as we are born we seem to struggle against chaos by trying to order our lives and predict their paths. But it seems that bringing order from the chaos—both at a personal level and a global level—may be a losing battle. For all the good we bring into life, we often find we may bring just as much bad.

The Bible talks about this issue, in fact, I would say that this issue is interwoven into the entire Read More

Bible Opinion Discussion At La Vista Church Jan. 6

LVC News:

The Bible is arguably the most influential book in history. Regardless of whether a person believes in the Bible’s God Yahweh or not, one cannot ignore the impact of the Bible upon history and upon society today.

That being the case, perhaps the problem we have is not whether we choose to follow it or not, but that the vast majority of people, Christians included, have an opinion about what the Bible says and yet have not truly read it for themselves in its entirety.

And so beginning Jan. 6, La Vista Church invites you to come and give authority to your opinion.

Pastor Granillo: This Is Our Story

By Pastor RAUL GRANILLO
Los Alamos

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1 NIV)

In the beginning God created (Genesis 1:1). From the account of the Bible, we can surmise that God created because God is love. But to understand this, we have to do some unpacking.

Imagine, even before Genesis 1:1, what God was like. We know that He was holy and glorious (Isaiah 6:3). And when Isaiah had his vision in the throne room he said, “‘Woe to me!’ I cried. ‘I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, Read More

Letter To The Editor: Catholicism, Gayness, Blind Men, And Elephants

By KAHLIL SPENCER
Los Alamos

Having neither the expertise nor the interest in engaging either Roy Moore or Rev. Glenn Jones in a discussion of Catholicism vs. Gay Love, I will offer this. The story of the Blind Men and the Elephant.

John Godfrey Saxe’s (1816-1887) version of the famous Indian legend,

It was six men of Indostan
To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the Elephant
(Though all of them were blind),
That each by observation
Might satisfy his mind.

The First approach’d the Elephant,
And happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side,
At once began to bawl:

Letter To The Editor: Response To Mr. Moore

Ray Moore (“Gay Love”, 12/31/15) is correct in stating that the true Christian is to hate no one, but exhibits a fundamental misunderstanding of the Christian interpretation of the Bible: the letters of Paul and the other authors of the New Testament are not in opposition to Jesus’ teachings, but rather are complementary to them.

Another fundamental misunderstanding that Moore (and many others) seems to hold is that all (or a great many) Christians “hate” homosexuals; that is absolutely incorrect. Roman

Pastor Granillo: I AM

By Pastor Raul Granillo
Los Alamos

God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you.” Exodus 3:14 (NIV)

When God came to Moses in a burning bush and told him that he was sending him back to free the Israelites from slavery, Moses asked a couple of fair questions. Who am I to do this, and who are you to send me? In our lives today, we may often ask these same questions: “Who am I to interfere with what is happening?” and “Who are you God to command me to do so?”

What we may not understand, and what Moses seemed to have missed as well, is that who God is and how we understand Read More

Peace.

“But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity” Micah 5:2 NASB).

Living in a state of peace is a common goal for mankind. Whether it be at the global level, the government level, in our own homes, or even in our minds, peace is something we all desire. And during the Christmas season, peace—especially “peace on earth”—seems to be one of the most prevalent themes in windows, on mantles, and in carols. Read More

Pastor Granillo: Rejoice!

By Pastor RAUL GRANILLO

Rejoice!

“Shout for joy, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem!” Zephaniah 3:14 (NASB).

There are some days when rejoicing is the last thing we want to do. You know, the days when you find out your job is not as secure as you thought, or the days when you lose a loved one, or the days when you realize your child has chosen a very dangerous path.

It is hard to rejoice when people seem so divided, or when the enemy seems to be at the gate, or even when we are just worried about keeping our home. Yes, there Read More
